Re: Lexicomp Gradebook (EGS) 2000
Hi Jon, welcome to the forums. The Lexicomp Gradebook 2000 can boot from PCMCIA. To use a CF card you have to use a PCMCIA to CF adapter, these are available rather cheap from ebay. Since it sports MS-DOS 5.0 it can access up to 2GB- which is a lot for these babys. The ROM installation will turn som...

Counter measures against chinese DDOS attacks
Well actually I'm not even sure if this was a DDOS or just some badly configured spider? Anyways, last weeks we have had our CPU and memory usage always at 100% due to a myriad of seemingly normal hits on the forums. You might have noticed loads of HTTP 500 errors due to the overload situation. I fi...

Re: Mini, low power computer options?
Yeah shame that such low power computers aren't made any more. But yeah most people expect backlight, wifi,3G, fast processor and so on, so battery life has to suffer. At least today there's some amazing laptops -while it won't fit in your Pocket I do like the Lenovo T480 - which gives over 17 hours...

Re: Mini, low power computer options?
Yeah the "low power", "AA Batteries" and "a weeks usage" kinda limit it to DOS palmtops automatically. So here's my ten cents. No final wisdom, but let me share a few thoughts... - Tandy Model 100, Amstrad NC100, AlphaSmart: These have great keyboards. They are good for...

New counter measures against spammers
Well since lately we get "Hit and run" spammers pretty much every day I had to implement some more counter measures. So from now on newly registered users CAN NOT post links. It sucks I know but lately I had to delete spam on a daily base. If you feel you need to post urls and your account...

Re: Let's build the perfect palmtop with todays tech...
Yeah a pretty dim super-power saving mode would be neat. About Teletext - I do remember that in the 80s there were some teletext addon modules, but I guess these days if you wanna find an all-in-one chip you'll have to go for a TV receiver chip with teletext i fear. Well or create a custom chip or c...

Credit card sized radios!
Well one of my passions.Been collecting for a while and I got quite a few. Well credit card size as in "Dimensions of a credit card but obviously much thicker". I just started listing the ones by Casio, Citizen and sony. They do have some nice models. No photos (yet?) but at least kinda ba...

Re: Another Palmtop collector: reporting for duty
Nice website! I don't speak dutch but for some words I can guess as they're similar to German.
I must admit I do have a few non-DOS PDAs but never really used them much. Personally I get sad if it can't run Maniac Mansion. :3 But still awesome collection, so many I never heard of before.

Re: Let's build the perfect palmtop with todays tech...
OK late reply is late, but some good point here! So here's my 2 cents - please keep in mind: Just a personal opinion not final wisdom. :) - Radio chip. Excellent idea. Could maybe even fumble and make it possible to turn on radio without the CPU or screen which would save even more power. Not sure h...

Re: Lexicomp LC-300
For the time it was pretty advanced. But as it is I guess you only got fun with this specific model if you can read chinese. I do like that it has a spreadsheet, that makes it quite useful.
